Northern Canine Rescue

Northern Canine Rescue is located in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut Canada. We are a group of dedicated animal lovers whose mission it is to rescue, provide shelter, educate and ultimately re-home stray, abandoned and neglected animals.

Tom Rutherdale - President

Hello, my name is Tom Rutherdale and I have lived in Cambridge Bay for nearly 7 years. I am a power lineman by trade, and love my life and work in the North. I adopted my first dog, a beautiful border collie/husky mix named Marley, about a year after moving here and have been a dog lover ever since. I joined Northern Canine Rescue because I shared the desire to help the many dogs of Cambridge Bay and wanted to contribute my expertise in dealing with northern logistics to the cause. It also became one of my goals to help NCR organize the establishment of an operational heated dog shelter. Being part of NCR is also a great way to interact with members of our community, it is fantastic that people’s love for dogs is universal no matter what walk of life you’re from. My favourite Northern pastimes include going for snowmobile rides and kite boarding with Marley.

Stacey O’Toole - Vice President

Hello, my name is Stacey O’Toole, I moved from Halifax to Cambridge Bay in 2017 and have been the Vice President of the Canine Rescue for the last year or so. I am a registered nurse and I work in mental health. I have a passion for dogs and dog lovers, and I enjoy getting to know the community through both my work with the Government of Nunavut and through my volunteer work with the rescue. I am pictured here with my little Siberian Nan. Nan is a true Cambridge Bay special and we love our adventures together in the north. I recently purchased a cabin with some friends at West Arm and spending time there with Nan is just the best.

Lisa Wedge - Secretary/Treasurer

Hello, my name is Lisa Wedge. I've been in Cambridge Bay since March 2015. I'm a huge animal and nature lover. You'll see me frequently dog sitting at homes around Cambridge Bay while people are out on duty travel or vacation. I am pictured here with Lily & Nala, two dogs that I dog sit. I'm also a certified dog groomer and have groomed a fair share of the community’s dogs and cats, either at our yearly vet clinic in the summer or through out the year.
